The Indian women's team suffered their first T20 defeat after a one-sided defeat of South Africa in the Test and ODI series. South Africa won by 12 runs at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on Friday night.
For South Africa, opener Tajmin Britz scored 81, Marijan Kapp 57 and captain Laura Walvert scored 33 runs. The top order took the team's score to 189. In reply, Team India could score only 177 runs after losing 4 wickets. Britz, who missed the century, was the player of the match. The second T20 match of the series will be played on July 7 in Chennai at 7 pm.
Africa's openers put on fifty partnerships
The Indian lady won the toss and chose to bowl first. Walvert and Britz shared a fifty in 7 overs for South Africa. In the 8th over, Radha Yadav broke the opening partnership by bowling Walwart. Walwart scored 33 runs.
Cap scored a fifty
Seasoned all-rounder Marison Kapp at number-3 supported opener Britz. Both took the team's score past 100 in the 12th over. Britz completed his fifty with a four in the 16th over against Pooja Vastrakar. Cap also completed his half-century by hitting fours in the same over.
Radha breaks the partnership again
Radha Yadav got Cap caught out in the 17th over. Cap scored 57 runs. With this wicket, the partnership of 96 runs for the second wicket was also broken. Britz made the over big by hitting 2 sixes in the last 2 balls of the same over.
Britz combined with Chloe Tryon to take the team's score past 185 in the last 3 overs. Chloe Tryon scored 12 runs. While Britz was out after scoring 81 runs on the last ball of the innings. Pooja Vastrakar sent them both to the pavilion. The team made a huge score of 189 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.
India too had a strong start
Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana also gave India a strong start. Both took the team's score past 50 runs in just 5 overs. After a good start, Ayabonga Khaka dismissed Shefali in the sixth over. Shefali scored 18 runs.
After a good start, wickets started falling
Dayalan Hemalta landed at number-3, but he put pressure on Mandhana. Only 5 fours came in the next 5 overs. Having scored 86 in 9 overs, Chloe Tryon scored 4 balls in the 10th over, resulting in Mandhana being stumped on the last ball. He scored 46 runs. In the second over, Hemlata also got out after playing a slow innings of 14 runs off 17 balls.
Rodriguez-Kaur took over the suit
India lost 3 wickets on the score of 87 runs. From here, captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodriguez took over the innings, but the scoring rate remained very slow. South Africa have won the first T20 to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The second match will be played on 7th July and the third match will be played on 9th July in Chennai. Before the T20 series, India won the ODI series 3-0. Also India won the only Test by 10 wickets.
