A plane has crashed in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. 18 out of 19 people present in the plane have died. There the injured pilot Captain M. Shakya has been rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The plane was going from Kathmandu to Pokhara.
The plane took off from Tribhuvan Airport at around 11 am. Within a short time it crashed. The 9N-AME plane belonged to Surya Airlines. Of those killed in the crash, 17 were staff of Shaurya Airlines, while the other 2 were crew-members.
According to the Kathmandu Post, immediately after the accident, a team of police and fire fighters reached the spot for rescue-operation. According to news agency PTI, a security official said the plane caught fire during the crash. Then it was extinguished immediately.
The pictures from the scene show billows of smoke rising, although the cause of the accident has not yet been revealed.
The plane was flying to Pokhara
It has been revealed that the plane belongs to Shaurya Airlines. It is reported that the accident took place at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. The plane was flying to Pokhara. Information is being received that only the technical staff of the airlines are on the plane. However, no passenger was traveling in it. This information was given by the information officer of the airport itself. As the plane crashed, it was transformed into a ball of fire and a sudden plume of smoke appeared in the sky.
A rescue-operation was carried out
According to sources, 18 people have died in this accident so far. It is reported that there are 19 people on board the plane. At present, the relief and rescue team has reached the spot and rescue-operation has been carried out. Efforts are being made to control the fire on the plane. Water attack is being done by fire department team.
An eyewitness said - There was a jolt on take-off, then a crash
Eyewitnesses who were present at the scene told the Kathmandu Post that "the plane took off from the southern end of the runway. The plane suddenly jerked and its wings hit the ground. The plane then caught fire. It then crashed into the Buddha Air Hangar and the eastern part of the runway. The radar fell between the stations.
68 people died in a plane crash in Nepal in 2023
Earlier on 14 January 2023, a plane crash took place in Nepal. In this accident, a plane of Yeti Airlines crashed in Pokhara, 205 km from Kathmandu. It was an ATR-72 plane, carrying 68 passengers and four crew-members.
