Rahul Gandhi's first speech as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha is being discussed in the NDA meeting as well as on social media.
When Rahul Gandhi was giving a speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had to stand up and intervene twice.
It is rare to see a Prime Minister standing up from his seat twice while an MP is speaking in the Lok Sabha.
During Rahul Gandhi's speech, apart from the Prime Minister, five ministers also stood up and intervened. These five ministers are Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju.
Some excerpts of Rahul Gandhi's speech were also removed from the proceedings of the House.
On this, Rahul Gandhi said on Tuesday, "In Modiji's world, the truth can be expanded, but the reality is that the truth cannot be expanded. I have said what I had to say. He can expand what he wants. The truth is finally there. There is truth.''
The BBC sought to understand from senior journalists how Rahul Gandhi's first speech as leader of the opposition went and why the ruling party had to repeatedly stand up and protest.
Some excerpts from Rahul Gandhi's speech
Let's see what issues Rahul Gandhi talked about in his speech and what he said...
The Hindu: 'Our great men have given this message – do not be afraid, do not be afraid. Shivaji says – do not be afraid, do not be afraid and knocks the trishul on the ground. On the other hand people who (looking at BJP) call themselves Hindus 24 hours violence-violence-violence....hate-hate-hate...you are not Hindu. It is clearly written in Hinduism that truth should be supported.'
Speaker: 'When I shook hands with you, you stood up straight. When Modiji shook hands, you bent down and shook hands with him.'
Agniveer Yojana: 'An Agniveer soldier was martyred by an explosive pig. I am calling him martyr but Indian government and Narendra Modi are not calling him martyr. They say Agniveer. His family will not get compensation. Will not get the status of martyr.'
Farmers: 'The government has become so arrogant that farmers are called terrorists. We wanted to observe a minute's silence to pay tribute to those who died in the farmers' movement but you refused saying that they are terrorists. The government still could not guarantee the MSP law to the farmers.'
BJP: 'Today Rajnath Singh greeted me with a smile. Modiji is sitting but he doesn't even salute. If Modi ji sees it, there will be trouble. The same is the story of Gadkari. There will be trouble. This is the truth. Leave the people of Ayodhya, they even scare the people of BJP.'
Government's reply to Rahul Gandhi

However, Rahul Gandhi immediately responded by saying, "Narendra Modiji, you are not the entire Hindu society." BJP is not the entire Hindu society. The RSS is not the entire Hindu society.”
When Rahul Gandhi was speaking about Agniveer Yojana, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh stood up and said, "He (Rahul Gandhi) should not mislead the House by making false statements."
When Rahul Gandhi claimed that there was panic within the BJP, the Prime Minister said, "Democracy and the Constitution have taught me that the Leader of the Opposition should take me seriously."
When Rahul Gandhi was talking about farmers, Shivraj Singh Chouhan stood up and said, "MSP is being given by adding at least 50 percent on the cost of production. If it is not happening then prove it. He (Rahul Gandhi) is giving a false statement.
When Rahul Gandhi was talking about bowing to Speaker Birla and shaking hands with Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah got up from his seat and said, "This is an allegation on the Speaker's seat".
